Master Copy Drawing: Prud'hon
2-Day Weekend Workshop Copying Prud’hon’s Figure Drawings
Copying masterworks is an age-old approach to learning the skills of classical drawing (or painting, for that matter). In this 2-day intensive workshop, students will study academic figure drawing by investigating and copying the renowned figure drawings of Pierre-Paul Prud'hon (1758-1823).
This workshop will be held at Classical Art Atelier, County Waterford, from 09 – 10 June. Please see venue, dates and details below.
Studies of nudes were usually undertaken during an artist’s education or served as the basis for paintings. This was not the case with Prud'hon; even as a mature artist he drew from life without seeking to exploit the work further in any way. Prud’hon was a French painter and draughtsman whose style and influence oscillated between Romanticism and Neoclassicism. Although he is well-known for his allegorical and mythological paintings – the most famous of these being his Crucifixion (1822), which now hangs in La Louvre – his reputation today rests more securely with his figure drawings.
Each student can choose a drawing by Prud'hon from which to copy for their master copy exercise.
